On Turning 40

I turned 40 this week.

I never thought about this impending milestone much, figuring it was just another birthday. But as the hours ticked down I got into a panic of sorts ... a few good bottles of wine shared with many friends over a few days were just the thing to ease my anxieties.

Well, "The Big 4-oh" has come and gone, and the dead soldiers include a 1994 Pontet Canet, a 2001 Command, a 1999 Pian delle Vigne, two nifty Spanish wines and the Kanonkops ('01/'02, see above).

More soon...

Happy birthday! I feel like a young'un amongst this crowd (still about a decade to go) but there's no substitute for experience. I've very much appreciated your perspective on wine and hope you keep it coming. Cheers!

Ed - I knew you couldn't hide behind that "30-something" much longer...

Barry - your birthday means two things: (1) your cellar is finally fantastic, and (2) no point in collecting now!

Shea - I hope a ten year head start is good for something. Some of us gain wisdom with age, some of us just get old and opinionated - let's hope I keep and open mind and don't start to get set in my ways.

Neil - I feel pretty lucky to have my health, a great family, and a wonderful cellar full of wine that allows to avoid the wine shop while I rebuild the balance sheet.

Cheers to all - don't stop writing!

Hi Fadi, many thanks, and sorry for the lengthy absence...

Hi Megan - I'd give you a hard time about your tardiness if I hadn't been so far away from this blog as of late. I hope 40 keeps coming back over and over again...

Thanks for your kind words Borracha.

Ok Barry, I've left it a bit too long...I get the message.

Hi Vinogirl, Happy Birthday to you as well - those pictures of budbreak are just the thing to cheer up an old man.

Thanks Everyone!
