Albariño, number 97 of my quest, is not an "obscure grape" at all. Found in cheap Portuguese Vinho Verde and pricier Rías Baixas from Spain, it has also found a following in the new world. While I have had Vinho Verde on a number of occasions, tonight I decided to spoil myself with a pricier bottling from Spain (served as a prelude to a paella dinner with friends):
The 2005 Pazo Señoráns Albariño (Rías Baixas) was a pretty wine - a nose of creamy fresh limes, hay and green grass, cranberries, apricot jelly, subtle floral notes in the background. Elegant and well balanced, luscious, with nice persistency and bitterness. Terrific!

Finally..the end is nigh...well..nearly...
If you were British you might get a knighthood...only thing I can offer is a Night Hood..cover you up when you slink through wine shops looking for an unknown grape only ever drank by Julius Caesar. I was worried your gut would suffer..but you have been blessed with some decent wines.
Let me know when you have finished as I will be starting my own 'obscure' search.
100 Obscure Women....which will remain a dream as my wife is standing here with a frying pan...'the steak medium-rare please dear'...
I find it odd that my Sovereign, the Queen, cannot bestow upon me a knighthood... but I digress. I kinda like the idea of drinking Caesar's grapes, kinship with the ruler of the world feeds my megalomaniacal thoughts. Some were decent, a really good one coming up soon....As for 100 obscure women, I have seen that frying pan before...
You're getting close now, Joe! What's struck me most about your quest to reach 100 is that the same grapes popped up on both our lists--including Bonarda!
Hi Debs, I have 98/99 done, but looking for one hundred...notes soon. I guess it is not that surprising how we mirrored each other - what is it they say about "Great Minds"? Actually, once you knock off the easy 40-60 plus the not too difficult 60-80 you are pretty much skulking about the same grapes...
Cheers!
