More crisp, like an Oregon Pinot.
2) Unfortunately, we don't get a lot of Oregon Pinot up here, so I have to sneak a few back when I cross the border.
3) I knew you would take me to task for my Burgundy comments! It is not that I don't like a good Burg, but I have had a few bad experiences (at extreme $$$) so I have put it aside while I work on my other regions (my wallet and liver are limited!). A project for 2007...
4) I agree on the food comment - these types of tastings (including the infamous Paris tasting) will always favour a fruitier, new world wine. We always have a selection of meats, cheeses and breads to prepare the palate and mitigate that, but I totally agree with you - Burgundy is not really a 'sipping' wine, but a meal wine.
5) Yes, the DRC...(gasp!)
Cheers, and thanks for the comments!Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07747056255576335926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27657184.post-56781810997431861952007-01-15T14:59:00.000-05:002007-01-15T14:59:00.000-05:00This sounds like a ball! I wish i could have participated. i like calera wines very much, the best pinots i have tasted in my extremely limited cali pinot experience. i'm an oregon pinot kind of guy, when it comes to new world wines. i think you're giving pinot (Burgundy anyway) a bad rap - it always works much better with food, and i tend to enjoy wines made by individual producers more than Jadot, Drouhin, Bouchard, and other large negociant houses. was it DRC wine that came in 3rd? nice tasting though, and 10 people - wow!Brooklynguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16321573602782343974noreply@blogger.com
